Orval E. Williamson “Gene” age 75 of Powder Springs, Georgia passed away on Saturday, December 19 at Wellstar Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain, a hospice care facility in Marietta, Georgia.

He was born February 16, 1945 in Vandalia, West Virginia son of the late Clarence and Berlie Harris Williamson.

Gene was a 1963 graduate of Normantown High School and was an Army veteran sergeant serving in Augsburg, Germany as Chief of Travel Section.   In 2004, Gene retired from United National Bank in Glenville after starting his career there 37 years earlier at what was then Kanawha Union Bank in 1967.  He was a coach for Normantown Little League and served as Little League Commissioner for a time along with being involved with the GCHS Band Boosters while his son was in high school.  He also worked at Cedar Creek State Park during the summer a few years in retirement.   While living in the Glenville area, Gene was a member of the Sand Fork Baptist Church before moving to Cana Baptist Church in Virginia.

Gene enjoyed traveling, drawing and painting wildlife and southwestern scenes, taking care of his backyard critters feeding the birds and squirrels, and finding a good fishing hole on the Williams River or sitting on the Nag’s Head Pier.

In June 1968 Gene was united in marriage to Chesna Sue Williamson who lives in their Powder Springs, Georgia home.

Surviving is 1 child, Brad Williamson (Eduardo) of Smyrna, Georgia, 1 brother Clarence Williamson, Jr. of Glenville, and 1 sister Cheryl Ann Wons (Richard) of Davisville, WV.  Also surviving are nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Gene is preceded in death by baby daughter Tamara Dawn.

A private service will be held Wednesday, December 23 at 1:00 p.m., followed by a public graveside service at the Meadow Lane Cemetery with Pastor Donald Dague officiating.  Burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, a cause Gene supported.
