Daniel Lee “Dan” Minney, 57 of Troy, WV; departed this earthly life in the early morning hours of Sunday, November 14, 2021 at his home with his loving wife Connie by his side.

Other than his wife – there’s nothing Dan Minney loved more than obscure music, craft beer, and his four kids. Dan was just 57 years old when kidney cancer stopped him in his tracks. If you knew Dan, you know he was quick and witty with a wicked sense of humor. Some would call him a smartass, but he had a heart of gold. He never knew a stranger, never failed to help a friend, and never stopped taking care of the people and places he loved.

Dan was born on a military base in Germany, but he grew up in Gilmer County. He was the fourth of seven children born to Ed and Margery Minney. Dan was born on Valentines Day 1964. He had five brothers – Mike, Jamie, Pat, Paul and Jerry and one sister Melissa. Margery always joked she couldn’t work the concession stand at school because she had the entire basketball team.

Dan lost his dad in 1993. His dad was his first coach and his best friend. They shared a love of music, motorcycles and Merle. Dan may have had the most eclectic record collection in the county. The more random and obscure a song, the more he liked it and the louder it was played. Dan idolized his dad and there’s no doubt the two of them are sitting somewhere tonight telling stories, listening to music, and drinking a beer.

Dan somehow snagged Connie way back in 1986, but it took him more than 30 years to convince her to marry him. Together they raised four kids, three horses, two goats and countless chickens. Over the years, Connie and Dan made their home a safe haven for anyone who needed a friend, a parent, or a warm bed. Dan never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone sitting in a bar or honkytonk. His favorite nights were spent in Nashville bars with Connie and his niece, Michelle. He could talk sports, music, politics. You name it he knew something about it.

He was an accountant by trade, but his favorite titles were Dad and Papaw. He had four great kids – Konda, Amber, Derek, and Brionna and four fabulous grandkids – Addison, Payton, Bryson and Mila. They were the center of his world.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 1:00 PM; Wednesday, November 17, 2021 with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Troy IOOF Cemetery in Troy, WV. Friends will be received from 4-8 PM; Tuesday evening at the mortuary in Glenville.
