Robert Brooks “ Bob” Reed, 89 of Glenville, WV; departed this earthly life in the late evening hours of Monday, December 20, 2021 at the Louis A Johnson Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV; following an extended illness.

He was born February 10, 1932 in Glenville, WV; son of the late Robert “Brooks” and Esta Long Reed.

Bob is a graduate of Glenville High School, class of 1951 and a veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1952-1954. He lived in Glenville all his life and attended classes at Glenville State College. While at GSC, “Bison Bob” as he would come to be known, played football and basketball and would be a strong supporter of all Gilmer County Sports for the rest of his life.

Bob worked most of his life in the construction and farming industries. He started his own business, Bob Reed the Builder, where he built numerous houses in the Glenville area and was also a “Jack of all Trades” including, carpenter, electrician, and plumber. The most enjoyment he got out of life was working on the family farm alongside his brothers and grandsons.

Bob is a Christian by faith and longtime member of the Glenville First Baptist Church. He was an accomplished golfer and spent a tremendous amount of time on the greens of the Glenville Golf Course. In his spare time, he enjoyed living the quiet life in Gilmer County, spending time with family, friends, and golfing buddies, and being on the farm.

On January 17, 1959 Bob was united in marriage to Elma “Cricket” Edwards Reed, who survives at their home in Glenville.

Surviving are 3 children, Carol Wolfe (John) of Glenville, Sandy Gumm (Bill) of Normantown, WV; and Sherry Ratliff (Tom) of Glenville, 3 grandsons, Jeremy Wolfe (Ashley) and Reed and Austin Ratliff, step-grandchildren, Nick Gumm (Joy) and Katie Goodman (Ben), 2 great-grandchildren, Brooks and Nicole Wolfe, 5 step-great grandchildren, Mason Dennis, Brayden and Ady Gumm, and Kade and Xander Goodman.

Also surviving is his brother, Andrew J. “Jack” Reed (Wanda) of Glenville and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.

Along with his parents, Bob is preceded in death by 3 siblings, Nelson “Tinker” Reed, Marion Reed, and Georgia Sergent and a step great-granddaughter, Briella Grace Goodman.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 2:00 PM; Monday, December 27, 2021 with Pastor Larry Fleming officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadow Lane Cemetery with full military honored provided by the United States Army. Friends will be received from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM; Monday at the mortuary in Glenville.

A tribute to celebrate Bob’s life will be published at a later date and in lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the Glenville State College, Bob Reed Football Scholarship, Care of GSC Foundation, 200 High St. Glenville, WV 26351 in Bob’s honor.
