Judith “Judy” Miller Kerns, 76 of Shock, WV; departed this earthly life in the afternoon hours of Thursday, June 24, 2022 at her residence following a sudden illness.

She was born October 24, 1945 in Spencer, WV; daughter of the late Robert Lee and Janice Wilmoth Miller.

Judy is a graduate of Normantown High School class of 1963 and a graduate of Glenville State College, class of 1967 where she obtained her teaching degree. She taught 40 years in the public school system, starting in Roane County with Project Drive before moving to Calhoun County, where she worked as the counselor at the Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center, taught 6th grade at Arnoldsburg, and ultimately taught 6th grade math at the Calhoun County Middle-High School.

She was an active member in the Shock Church of Christ for all of her life. She loved working the daily puzzles in the Charleston Gazette-Mail; enjoyed Hallmark Movies and family photos; but most of all loved being the first reader of her son’s stories as he wrote them.

On June 14, 1975 Judy was united in marriage to Vernon W. Kerns, who survives at their home on Tanner Fork Road.

Judy is survived by her loving son, Rob Kerns of Shock, her brother, Robert Miller and wife Gala of Parkersburg, WV; a niece, Charlene Kay Miller of Columbus, OH; and a nephew, William Bradley Miller of Parkersburg.

Also surviving is a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.

Along with her parents, Judy is preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Betty Siers Miller and her niece, Sherry Bartlett.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 11:00 AM; Wednesday, June 29, 2022 with Colin Hartshorn officiating. Burial will follow in the Earl V. Miller Cemetery near Shock. Friends will be received from 5:00 – 7:00 PM; Tuesday evening at the mortuary in Glenville.
