Derek Joel Stump, 22, of Normantown, WV; departed this earthly life on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 following a sudden illness.
He was born March 21, 2000 in Spencer, WV; son of Jamie and Della Hendershot Stump.
Derek worked for Lightning Energy in Bridgeport, WV; as a laborer in the oil and gas industry. In his spare time, Derek enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting, riding ATV’s, boating and playing xbox.
Surviving is his parents, Jamie and Della Hendershot Stump of Culpeper, VA; 7 siblings, Jenica McNally and husband Elvin, and Trent, Garrett, Aiden, Conner, Miayah, and Landon Stump all of Madison County, VA; paternal grandfather, Larry Stump and wife Kim of Gassaway, WV; and maternal grandmother, Janice Hendershot of Normantown.
Also surviving are a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.
Derek is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Willard Hendershot.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 1:00 PM; Thursday, September 1, 2022 with Pastor Chris Tatman officiating. Burial will follow in the Turner Cemetery near Lockney, WV. Friends will be received from 12:00 – 1:00 Thursday at the Mortuary in Glenville.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the Turner Union Cemetery, 2455 Lower Run Road, Normantown, WV 25267 in honor of Derek.
