John Jasper “Johnny” Poole, 82 of Glenville, WV; departed this life in the late evening hours of Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the Genesis Health Care Glenville Center following an extended illness.
He was born December 3, 1939 in Charleston, WV; son of the late Isaac and Hope Lohan Poole.
Johnny worked pipelines for many years having retired in the early 1990’s. During his time in the field he was a heavy equipment operator, laborer, and welder. In his spare time, Johnny enjoyed woodworking, watching local sports, tinkering on anything and everything, spending time with family and friends, and spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever possible.
Johnny is a Baptist by faith and longtime member of the Glenville First Baptist Church. He loved gospel music and played every Tuesday night for many years.
On July 11, 1957 Johnny was united in marriage to Nyla Frymier Poole who preceded him in death on February 14, 2019.
Surviving are 3 children, Dorinda Buck and husband Steve of Williamstown, WV; Mindy Nicholson and husband Mitch of New Milton, WV; and Jason Poole and wife Amanda of Glenville, and 1 brother, Bobby Joe Poole and wife Sherry of Ripley, WV.
Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, Jeremy Buck and wife Holly, Mitchell Buck, Sheena Gray and husband Roadie, and Isaac, Jacob, and Leah Poole, 7 great-grandchildren, Rylee and Rayme Gray, and Parker, Inessa, Gavin, Elyse, and Abigail Buck, and a host of other family and friends.
Along with his wife and parents, Johnny is preceded in death by 2 siblings, Frank Poole and Barbara Maness.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 11:00 AM; Saturday, October 1, 2022 with Rev. Kenny Fisher and Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Liberty Cemetery near Tanner, WV. Friends will be received from 4-7 PM; Friday evening at the mortuary in Glenville.
