Lorene Lewis Wolfe, 100 of Glenville, WV; departed this earthly life in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the Glenville Health and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.

She was born December 9, 1923 in Johnstown, WV; (Harrison County), daughter of the late Lorenzo Hill and Garnet (Chidester) Lewis.

Lorene was a graduate of Roosevelt Wilson High School, class of 1940 and a graduate of Glenville State University, class of 1953. She taught school briefly at Rosedale and Normantown High Schools, but spent most of her working life as a social worker for the Department of Health and Human Resources, having retired as a supervisor of child protective services.

In her spare time, Lorene enjoyed reading, gardening, playing Bridge, traveling the world, spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever possible, and spending time with family and friends. She was a Christian by faith, member of the Glenville First Baptist Church, and was ministered personally by Pastor Elizabeth Lewis of the Glenville Presbyterian Church.

On October 25, 1941 Lorene was united in marriage to Champ Clark Wolfe, who preceded her in death on July 12, 1987.

Surviving are three children, Lewis Wolfe of Parkersburg, WV; Julia Randolph and husband Steve of Bridgeport, WV and John G. Wolfe and wife Carol of Glenville; son-in-law David Tenney of Lost Creek, WV; eight grandchildren, Amy Collins (Wes) of Parkersburg; Sarah Solomon (Matt) of Apollo Beach, FL; Randy Wolfe of Belpre, OH; Brent Tenney (Mark) of Knoxville, TN; Barbara Evans (John) of Morgantown, WV; Brian Randolph (Jennifer) of Bridgeport; Ben Randolph (Christa) of Bridgeport, and Jeremy Wolfe (Ashley) of Ravenswood, WV.

Also surviving are 14 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.

Along with her husband and parents, Lorene was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Tenney, brother, Charles Lewis and daughter-in-law Diane Wolfe.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Lorene’s caretakers Crystal Stewart and Peggy Losh who helped make her long life possible.

Lorene’s request for cremation has been honored and a celebration of her life will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 2:00 PM; Sunday, February 18, with Pastor Elizabeth Lewis officiating. Following services, Lorene will be laid to rest privately alongside her husband Clark. Friends will be received from 1:00 – 2:00 PM; Sunday, February 18, at the Mortuary in Glenville.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Gilmer Public Library, 214 Walnut Street, Glenville, WV  26351.
