Betty J. Wright, 93 of Glenville, WV; (Kanawha Drive Community) departed this earthly life in the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at the WV Caring Hospice Center in Elkins, WV; following a brief illness.

She was born February 9, 1931 in Glenville, daughter of the late Ted and Alma (Sprouse) Greenlief.

Betty is a graduate of Glenville High School, class of 1949 and a graduate of Glenville State Teachers College with a degree in education. Betty taught at Tanner High School, Normantown High School, Sand Fork High School and retired from Calhoun County High School in 1989.

Betty is a lifetime member of the Glenville First Baptist Church, member of the Kanawha Drive CEOs and Delta Kappa Gamma. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed bowling in the Central WV Bowling League, caring for her yard, staying active with her church, spending time with family and friends, and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever possible.

On March 14, 1953 Betty was united in marriage to Willard L. “Hep” Wright Sr., who preceded her in death on May 8, 2011.

Surviving is a son, Willard L. Wright Jr., and wife Michele of Glenville, 4 grandchildren, Joseph Wright of Morgantown, WV; Andrea Rexroad of Heaters, WV; Trevor Wright of Glenville, and Sada Wright of La Vale, MD; and 2 great-grandchildren, Emily Grace Loftis and Briar Rexroad.

Also surviving are 2 siblings, Pat Clutter and husband Ken of Canton, OH; and Nancy Minney and husband Tom of Cox’s Mills, WV; 2 sister-in-laws, Virginia Lydick of Glenville and Mary Greenlief of Weston, WV; and a host of special neighbors, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.

Along with her husband and parents, Betty is preceded in death by 9 siblings, Larry Greenlief, Fred Greenlief, William “Bill” Greenlief, Jack Greenlief, Douglas Greenlief, Joyce Minney, Wanda Boggs, Phyllis Starkey, and Mary Sue Roe.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 2:00 PM; Saturday, February 17, 2024 with Pastor Kenny Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadow Lane Cemetery. Friends will be received from 12:00 noon -2:00 PM; Saturday at the mortuary in Glenville.
